TYPE LOCALITY: Sweden, Uppsala County, Uppsala.
DISTRIBUTION: India and S.E. Asia. Introduced worldwide in tropics and warm temperate zones.
COMMENT: Formerly included simalurensis; see Musser, 1979, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 162(6):439. Includes masaretes (see Musser, 1970, J. Mammal., 51:606-609), palelae (see Musser, 1971, Am. Mus. Novit., 2454:1- 19), benguetensis, coloratus, kelleri, lalolis, mindanensis, robiginosus, sapoensis, and zamboangae (see Musser, 1977, Am. Mus. Novit., 2624:12), sladeni, flavipectus (see Ellerman and Morrison-Scott, 1951:583), and mansorius (see Johnson, 1962, Bull. Bernice P. Bishop Mus., p. 225). Revised by Schwarz and Schwarz, 1967, Ann.
