Description
Leptonychotes weddelli (Lesson, 1826). Bull. Sei. Nat. Geol., 7:437.
TYPE LOCALITY: South Orkney Isl. (Br. Antarct. Trust Terr.).
DISTRIBUTION: Coastal areas of Antarctic continent. Occasionally north to South America, Australia, and New Zealand.
COMMENT: Reviewed by Stirling, 1971, Mamm. Species, 6:1 -5, and Kooyman, 1981, Weddell seal: Consummate diver. Cambridge Univ. Press, Cambridge, x + 135 pp.
