TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Guadalupe Isl., Fondeadero del Oeste (West Anchorage).
DISTRIBUTION: Guadalupe Isl. (Mexico); Channel Isis. (California, U. S. A.).
COMMENT: Formerly included in Arctophoca; see Repenning et al., 1971, Antarct. Res. Ser., 18:1 -34. Considered conspecific with philippii by Scheffer, 1958, Seals, sealions, and walruses, Stanford Univ. Press, 179 pp.
