Mustela sibirica Pallas, 1773. Reise Prov. Russ. Reichs., 2: 701.

TYPE LOCALITY: U.S. S. R., E. Kazakhstan, vic. of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Tigeretskoie.

DISTRIBUTION: Tataria, Urals, Siberia, Far East (U.S. S. R.); Pakistan east to N. Burma; N. Thailand; Taiwan; China; Korea; Japan. Sakhalin (U.S. S.R.)(introduced).

COMMENT: Includes itatsi; see Corbet, 1978:170. May include lutreolina; see Ellerman and Morrison-Scott, 1951:260-262, and Lekagul and McNeely, 1977:536, who listed Java in the distribution for this species; but also see comments under lutreolina.
