Description
Enhydra lutris (Linnaeus, 1758). Syst. Nat., 10th ed., 1:45.
TYPE LOCALITY: U.S. S. R., Kamchatka, Commander Isis.
DISTRIBUTION: Formerly, coastal Hokkaido (Japan); Sakhalin Isl., Kurile Isis., Commander Isis., Kamchatka (U.S. S.R.), Aleutian Isis., and S. Alaska (U.S.A.) to Baja California (Mexico).
COMMENT: Revised by Roest, 1973, Los. Ang. Cty. Mus. Contrib. Sei., 252:1- 17. Reviewed by Davis and Lidicker, 1975, Proc. Calif. Acad. Sei., 4:429-437; and Estes, 1980, Mamm. Species, 133:1-8.
