Training and development of the employees improves productivity and organizational
effectiveness. Training is an activity designed to equip personnel with needed knowledge, skill
and attitude for the jobs, for which they are first recruited. This paper examine the usefulness of
training for the workers as well as for the corporations, determines the major types of training
and development programs, discusses the relationship between training and the overall
organizational performance, and present guidelines for HR managers to design effective training
and development programs.
