THE RELIGIOUS MISSION AND THE TRANSLATION OF A WORLD: ETHNOGRAPHIC INSERTIONS OF AN ANGLICAN MISSIONARY IN THE PARAGUAYAN CHACO
Description
This article aims is undertaking a discursive analysis of the religious experience produced by Wilfrid Barbrooke Grubb about his own missionary experiences placed on the Paraguayan Chaco region. The material we are going to use is the book Among The Indians of The Paraguayan Chaco (1904). The method of analysis is based on taking some excerpts and samples of expressions from the book, written and published in English, taking turns with the Portuguese translation, which is still underway. The analysis will take under consideration discursive, cultural and religious aspects, the author’s worldwide vision and contrast them with the decolonial idea as a practical engagement in the involved areas. The result is the evidence that we need to promote other translations that discuss the translation of a native world, making explicit the worlds that blend the language in which the the book is written.
