Map of the Gaia DR3 OB star density within 5000 parsecs

Description

This map combines data from numerous sources to provide a detailed image of the Milky Way within 5000 parsecs. It includes several star density isosurfaces, dust clouds, young and luminous star clusters, OB associations, HII regions and (for comparison) masers.

Notes

Thank you to several astronomers who helped add to the list of HII region ionizing stars including Alec Thomson, Alex Hill, Eric Mamajek and Robert Benjamin. The 3D model of the Milky Way was constructed in Blender by Stefan Payne-Wardenaar (Twitter: @StefanPWinc).
