This article discusses semantic neologisms as one of the ways to replenish the vocabulary of the modern Russian language. In the article, youth slang is considered as a special social medium of communication, a special place of language realization, as a result of which the semantics of lexical units used in it undergoes changes, sometimes very significant. The neologisms recorded in the dictionaries of youth slang of the last decades were considered as the object of study. The vocabulary characteristic and often used by the majority of Russian-speaking young people, but not perceived by the older generation as commonly used or literary, is considered. The words reflected in this article represent a layer of semantic neologisms that expand the meaning of existing words of the Russian language.
