  • 1. Kurukshetra University

Description

Nature has always been a fascinating source of inspiration for artists. Innumerable evidences can be found in the works of many artists who are conscious about the tragedies and the issues that the world is facing due to global warming and extreme exploitation of the natural resources by humans. The paper chiefly explores the contribution of Delhi-based artist Vibha Galhotra in bringing out the three main problems across the world; the Anthropocene concept, the chaotic town planning and the deplorable condition of Indian rivers. The artist has addressed the exploitation of nature through use of different material which is now termed as Neo-Materialism. This Neo-Mediumistic or Neo-Materialistic approach is frequently used in contemporary art and artist Vibha Ghalotra has also used it in her works which is entirely inspired by nature. Her works are centralized with different kind of materials, especially Ghungrus and has created tapestries in large scale by using coloured Ghungrus. The findings will help to understand how visual art is contributing to resolve issues such as pollution, global warming crisis and stubble burning. Thus, the present research strongly determines a connection between environment and art. The paper indicates how the artist is showcasing her potentiality to bring about the change and awareness in society through her works.
