Description

Fannia hirticeps­ group

Fannia hirticeps­ group, Chillcott, 1961: 94.

Diagnosis: Hind coxa posteroventrally bare (except in F. barbata); proboscis rather short, prementum at most 3.0X longer than wide; eye usually haired; mid first tarsomere often with basal tooth­like spines; mid and hind tibiae usually with at least 2 setae on each surface (including av, ad, pd or pv surface); lower calypter projecting beyond upper one. Included species: Fannia armata (Meigen) (China: Heilongjiang Province: Jingpo Lake; throughout Europe, Greenland); F. atra (Stein) (widespread throughout Europe and Nearctic Region); F. barbata (Stein) (China: Liaoning Province; Mongolia, Japan, throughout Europe); F. cothurnata (Loew) (China: Shanxi Province; throughout Europe); F. hirticeps (Stein) (China: Shanxi Province: Taiyuan; throughout Europe, Alaska); F. krimensis Ringdahl (southern Europe, Morocco); F. lasiops Malloch (throughout North America); F. limbata (Tiensuu) (rare, north and central Europe); F. nidica Collin (Great Britain and Czech Republic); F. novalis Pont (Great Britain); F. ungulata Chillcott (throughout North America); F. xuei sp. nov. (China: Guizhou Province: Mt. Fanjing).

Distribution: Holarctic Region.
