Description

As social beings, we look for ways to belong to our communities in the best possible way, shaping our bodies and minds to be valued and understood. In this attempt to belong, we often base our values and desires on standards of beauty and behavior created in a complex social, economic and political system. Inserted in contemporary discourses, the traditional standards of beauty of the human body have been questioned in the most varied segments, from fashion, advertising to academic studies. The perception of the beautiful body image worshiped today refers to the idealized human figures of classical art, making the search for beauty an infinite and harmful process. At the same time, many contemporary artists develop works that question the standards of beauty in force in the body and encourage new ways for an individual to perceive his own image. In this context, the present work examines the relationships between art, education, culture and standards of beauty of the body, with the central objective of developing an educational material aimed at teachers working in High School and Higher Education. Its methodology sought to map initiatives to approach the body in education, especially in the teaching of visual arts, with an emphasis on ethical and aesthetic education, and educational curation. Through a contemporary discourse, this research makes reference to the fields of art, education, fashion, advertising and sociology.
