Scytodes marlieria new species

Type material: Holotype: male from Marliéria [19°43' S; 42°45' W], Minas Gerais, Brazil, 24 July 1996, R.L. Ferreira & M.M.G.S. Mello-Marques, deposited in IBSP 36480.

Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition that refers to the type locality of the holotype.

Diagnosis. Males of Scytodes marlieria sp.n. are distinguished from those of the remaining Neotropical Scytodes by the very slender, slightly laminar distal region (Figs. 49–50) with a prolateral sclerotized process (Fig. 50–51).

Description. Male (Holotype, IBSP 36480). Carapace pale yellow with brown pattern, as shown on Fig. 48. Chelicerae pale yellow with median longitudinal brown stripe. Pedipalps with dorsal and prolateral longitudinal stripes. Labium orange. Endites cream colored. Sternum cream colored with brown markings in front of each coxae. Legs pale yellow. Femora and tibiae I–IV with ventral pair of longitudinal brown stripes. Abdomen whitish gray (Fig. 48). Total length 3.1. Carapace slightly domed, 1.7 long, 1.5 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.12, ALE 0.12, PLE 0.12. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae with subapical hyaline keel and inconspicuous stridulatory ridges. Labium 0.10 long, 0.18 wide. Sternum 0.92 long, 0.76 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 4.0, patella 0.4, tibia 4.3, metatarsus 5.1, tarsus 0.7, total 14.5; II: 2.8, 0.4, 2.8, 3.2, 0.6, 9.8; III: 1.5, 0.4, 1.5, 1.8, 0.5, 5.7; IV: 2.6, 0.4, 2.5, 2.8, 0.6, 8.9. Palpal femur with long and slender stridulatory pick with rounded and slightly projected socket. Cymbium with single, strong distal spine (Fig.

49). Bulb 0.44 long, distally narrowed and slightly bent (Figs. 49–50). Distal region spoon shaped with retrolateral sclerotized process (Figs. 50–51). Abdomen 1.4 long, 1.2 covered with short, slender hairs. Female unknown.

Distribution. Cerrado. Only known from the type locality, in the state of Minas Gerais.
