Nanocladius (Nanocladius) baltus sp. n.

(Fig. 1 A–E)

Type material: Holotype male, CHINA: Yunnan Province: Yuanjiang County, 23°59'N, 102°00'E, 400–910 m a.s.l., 23.v.1987, light trap, Huanguang Zou (BDN No.07366). Paratypes: 3 males, same data as holotype (BDN Nos 0 7365, 0 7367, 07368); 1 male, Hainan Province: Xinglong County, Huaqiao Farm, 18°24'N, 110°06'E, 21.v.1985, light trap, X. Wang (BDN No. 1368).

Diagnostic characters. The species is similar to N. (N.) incomptus Saether, 1977 in AR, VR and the shape of the inferior volsella, but can be separated as the transverse sternapodeme is lacking oral projections and the distribution of setae on the abdomen differs.

Etymology. From Latin, baltus, belt, referring to the dark brown ring in basal half of mid- and hind femur.

Male (n = 5). Total length 1.32–1.82, 1.63 mm. Wing length 0.92–0.94, 0.93 mm. Total length / wing length 1.7–2.0, 1.8. Wing length / length of profemur 2.9.

Coloration. Head, palp, and antenna brown. Thorax dark brown. Legs with femur of mid- and hind legs dark brown in basal 1/2, other parts yellow. Abdominal tergites I–III brown with pale yellow margins, tergites IV–IX brown.

Head. Antenna with 13 flagellomeres; ultimate flagellomere 160–175, 168 µm long, apex slightly expanded, with short sensilla chaetica. AR 0.44–0.52, 0.49. Temporal setae absent. Clypeus with 6–8 setae. Tentorium 115–125, 120 µm long; 10–15 µm wide. Stipes 95–105 µm long. Palpomeres length (in µm): 15–20, 18; 28–38, 34; 48–55, 51; 60–75, 70; 100–125, 110. Palpomere 5/3: 2.2–2.5, 2.4.

Wing (Fig. 1 A). VR 1.0–1.2, 1.1. Cu length 350–410, 370 µm. Squama and veins bare. Cu / wing length 0.39–0.46, 0.44. Wing width / wing length 0.33–0.38, 0.35.

Thorax. Dorsocentrals 7, prealars 1. Scutellum with 2 setae.

Legs (Fig. 1 B). Spur of foretibia 28–38, 35 µm long; spurs of midtibia 15–20, 18 µm long; of hind tibia 28–30, 28 µm long. Hind tibial comb with 11–13, 12 setae. Width at apex of foretibia 23–28, 26 Μm; of midtibia 25–28, 26 Μm; of hind tibia 33–40, 35 Μm. Lengths and proportions of legs as in Table 1.

Abdomen (Fig. 1 C). Number of setae on tergite I: 6; on tergites III–VII: 2, 2, 7, 4, 4, 4.

Hypopygium (Fig. 1 D–E). Anal point bare with pointed apex, 25 Μm long. Tergite IX and laterosternite IX without setae. Phallapodeme 50–53, 52 Μm long; transverse sternapodeme without oral projections. Gonocoxite 113–130, 120 Μm long; with 8–10 long setae. Inferior volsella bluntly triangular. Gonostylus slender, 50–55, 52 Μm long, with several short setae. HR 2.3–2.6, 2.4; HV 2.6–3.6, 3.2.

Distribution. The specimens were collected in subtropical areas in Yunnan and Hainan Provinces, Oriental China.

Type material. Holotype male, CHINA: Sichuan Province: Baoxing County, 30°22' N, 102°50' E, 1.100 m a.s.l., 19.vi.1996, light trap, X. Wang (BDN No.12850).

Diagnostic characters. The species is similar to N. (N.) pubescens Makarchenko et Makarchenko, 2004 in AR and the shape of the inferior volsella, but the distribution of setae on the abdomen differs and the base of the anal point lacks long setae.

Etymology. From Latin, calvatus, bare, referring to tergites I–IV and VII–VIII lacking setae.

Male (n = 1). Total length 1.83 mm. Wing length 0.97 mm. Total length / wing length 1.9. Wing length / length of profemur 2.9.

Coloration. Head, palp, and antenna yellowish brown. Thorax brown. Legs pale yellow. Abdominal tergites I–IV and VII–VIII pale yellow, tergites V–VI brown with pale yellow margins.

Head. Antenna with 13 flagellomeres; ultimate flagellomere 130 µm long, apex with long sensilla chaetica. AR 0.32. Temporal setae absent. Clypeus with 8 setae. Tentorium 100 µm long, 10 µm wide. Stipes 75 µm long, 8 µm wide. Palpomere length (in µm): 23, 25, 58, 75, 133. Palpomere 5/3 2.3.

Wing (Fig. 2 A). VR 1.03. Cu length 380 µm. Squama with 1 setae, veins bare. Cu / wing length 0.39. Wing width / wing length 0.40.

Thorax. Dorsocentrals 5, prealars 2. Scutellum with 2 setae.

Legs. Spur of foretibia 28 µm long, spurs of midtibia both 18 µm long, of hind tibia 28 µm and 10 µm long. Hind tibial comb with 11 setae. Width at apex of foretibia 20 Μm, of midtibia 23 Μm, of hind tibia 35 Μm. Lengths and proportions of legs as in Table 2.

Tergites I–IV and VII–VIII without setae, number of setae on tergites V–VI: 4, 6. Hypopygium (Fig. 2 C–D). Anal point 30 Μm long. Tergite IX with 8 setae; laterosternite IX with 2 setae. Phallapodeme 30 Μm long; transverse sternapodeme without oral projections. Gonocoxite 113 Μm long, with 6 setae. Inferior volsella narrowly triangular (Fig. 2 E). Gonostylus 50 Μm long, with 1 seta apically. HR 2.23; HV 3.66.

Distribution. The specimen was collected in a subtropical area in Sichuan Province, Oriental China.
