Description

Keilbachia truncata sp. n.

Figs 4 A–E

Material studied. Holotype. Male. NEW CALEDONIA, Pindaï, sclerophyllous forest, fogging, 30.vi.1996, Bonnet de Larbogne, Chazeau & Guilbert (in MNHN). Paratypes. 1 male, same data as holotype (in SMNH); 2 males, Mont Nondoué, sclerophyllous forest, 3.vii.1992, Bonnet de Larbogne, Chazeau & Guilbert (1 in MZH, 1 in PWMP).

Description. Male. Head. Brown, maxillary palpus very pale brown, antenna brown. Eye bridge 3–4 facets wide. Face with 4–11 setae. Clypeus with 1–3 setae. Maxillary palpus with 3 palpomeres, first and third palpomeres subequal in length, second palpomere shorter; first palpomere with 1–2 long sharp setae, with dorsal patch of sensilla; second palpomere with 1 long sharp seta and 4–5 shorter truncate setae, third palpomere with 5–6 short truncate setae. Antennal flagellomere 4, Fig. 4 A: 1.75–2.10x as long as wide, neck as long as wide, the longest setae slightly longer than width of flagellomere. Thorax. Brown, pleura slightly paler than scutum, the setae dark. Anterior pronotum with 2–5 setae. Episternum 1 with 3–7 setae. Wing. Length 1.2–1.3 mm. Width/length 0.35– 0.45. R1/R 0.70–0.75. c/ w 0.55 –0.65. r-m and bM faded in specimens, lengths not seen, r-m nonsetose or with 1 seta, bM nonsetose. Haltere pale brown. Legs. Pale yellowish brown. Apical part of front tibia, Fig. 4 B: tibial organ with fine and pale vestiture, in shallow depression, forming a patch. Front tibial spur slightly longer than tibial width. Abdomen. Pale brown, much paler than thorax, setae dark. Hypopygium, Figs 4 C–E: pale brown, as abdomen. Gonocoxa and gonostylus of equal length. Ventral setosity of gonocoxa sparse. Gonostylus elongated, slightly narrowed towards truncate apex, mesial side slightly impressed; setosity sparse, apically denser with some slender truncate modified setae among ordinary setae; without apical tooth, subbasally with curved megaseta. Tegmen slightly wider than long, with sharp basolateral shoulders, aedeagus short.

Discussion. Keilbachia truncata is very similar to C. fratercula. The species can be distinguished from K. fratercula in having longer antennal flagellomeres and a longer tegmen with a roundish, not truncate apex.
