Description

Keilbachia constricta sp. n.

Figs 3 A–E

Material studied. Holotype. Male. NEW CALEDONIA, Rivière Bleue N.P., (parc 6), rainforest, 20.i.1993, Bonnet de Larbogne, Chazeau & Guilbert (in MNHN). Paratypes. 4 males, same data as holotype (in MNHN); 8 males, same data as previous but 16.vii.1992 (5 in SMNH, 1 in MZH and 1 in PWMP); 3 males, Pindaï, sclerophyllous forest, 30.vi.1996, Bonnet de Larbogne, Chazeau & Guilbert (in MNHN); 2 males, Mont Nondoué, sclerophyllous forest, 3.vii.1992, Bonnet de Larbogne, Chazeau & Guilbert (in MNHN).

Description. Male. Head. Brown, maxillary palpus very pale brown, antenna pale brown. Eye bridge 3 facets wide. Face with 7–10 setae. Clypeus with 1 seta. Maxillary palpus with 3 palpomeres, first palpomere longer than third palpomere, second palpomere shortest; first palpomere with 1 long sharp seta, with dorsal patch of sensilla; second palpomere with 1 long sharp seta and 4 shorter truncate setae, third palpomere with 5 short truncate setae. Antennal flagellomere 4, Fig. 3 A: 1.8–2.5x as long as wide, neck slightly longer than wide, longest setae slightly longer than width of flagellomere. Thorax. Pale brown, pleura paler than scutum, setae dark. Anterior pronotum with 1–2 setae. Episternum 1 with 3–4 setae. Wing. Length 1.1 mm. Width/length 0.40–0.45. R1/R 0.90. c/ w 0.65 – 0.80. r-m and bM faded in specimens, lengths not seen, both r-m and bM nonsetose. Haltere pale brown. Legs. Pale yellowish brown. Apical part of front tibia, Fig. 3 B: tibial organ with fine and pale vestiture, in shallow indistinctly bordered depression, forming indistinct row with a few scattered elements. Front tibial spur as long as tibial width. Abdomen. Pale brown, setae dark. Hypopygium, Figs 3 C–E: pale brown, as abdomen. Gonocoxa slightly longer than gonostylus. Ventral setosity of gonocoxa sparse. Gonostylus elongated, subapically narrowed, mesial side slightly impressed; setosity sparse but dense group of setae at apex and a few truncate setae among normal setae; without apical tooth, subbasally with strongly curved megaseta on narrow basal body. Tegmen slightly wider than long, with weak basolateral shoulders, aedeagus short.

Discussion. Keilbachia constricta is similar to K. fratercula and K. truncata in having truncate setae amidst the normal apical setae on the gonostylus. Keilbachia constricta resembles K. truncata also in having a similar wide tegmen. Keilbachia constricta differs from both in having a subapically strongly constricted gonostylus.
