Pseudopallene glutus Pushkin 1975

Description

Pseudopallene glutus Pushkin, 1975

Pseudopallene glutus Pushkin, 1975: 1402 –1404

Remarks. In combination with its overall habitus and the absence of palp buds this specimen is incompatible with Pseudopallene and it does not share the distinctive oviger claw or chela shape with Meridionale. It is closest to Cordylochele but differs in the longer and more widely-spaced lateral processes, in the shape of the oviger claw and in the shape of the chelae. The Sub-Antarctic collection site, the shape of the proboscis and the longer tarsus distinguish this species from all of the above genera.

In some respects P. glutus bridges Cordylochele and Austropallene Hodgson, 1915 s.str. The proboscis is very much Austropallene -like and the collection locality is more in keeping with the geographic range of that genus. However the possession of a terminal oviger claw and probably the absence of cephalic horns immediately separate this species from Austropallene.

Distribution Only known from the Sub-Antarctic (45° 47' S, 49° 44' W).
