Description

Neostasina turquino sp. nov.

Type material: Holotype: ♀, Cuba, Oriente, south side Pico Turquino [20°08’N, 76°46’W], June 1936, P.J. Darlington leg. (MCZ 69022).

Etymology. The specific name is a noun and refers to the type locality.

Diagnosis. Females of N. turquino sp. nov. are distinguished from those of the other species of the genus by the epigyne with anterior rim entire, strongly depressed medially, roughly M-shaped (Fig. 143).

Description. Female: Prosoma brown, slightly darker at eye area and along thoracic striae. Fovea brown, Eye borders black. Chelicerae brown. Legs and pedipalps brown, slightly lighter than prosoma. Sternum yellow with brown margins. Endites yellow, distally pale yellow. Labium brown, distally pale yellow. Opisthosoma cream colored; dorsally with dense pattern of irregular gray marks; ventrally mottled with brown spots. Total length 8.8. Prosoma: 3.8 long, 3.2 wide. Opisthosoma: 5.0 long, 2.9 wide. Eyes: diameters: 0.20, 0.18, 0.12, 0.18; interdistances: 0.18, 0.12, 0.32, 0.28, 0.20, 0.08. Legs (21/43): I: 12.2 (3.6, 1.8, 3.3, 2.7, 0.8); II: 12.4 (3.8, 1.9, 3.2, 2.8, 0.7); III: 9.8 (3.2, 1.5, 2.2, 2.3, 0.6); IV: 12.2 (3.6, 1.5, 2.8, 3.4, 0.9). Epigyne: epigynal field roughly squared, slightly wider than long; median septum rectangular, 1.5 times wider than long (Fig. 143). Vulva: glandular projections short, rounded, with wide base; spermathecae packed within sclerotized structure narrowing towards fertilization ducts; internal ducts inverted U-shaped (Figs 144−145).

Male: unknown.

Distribution. Only known from the type locality (Map 3).

Remarks. See N. montegordo sp. nov.
