Description

Neostasina gunboat sp. nov.

Type material: Holotype: ♂, Jamaica, Kingston Parish, Gunboat Beach [17°56’N, 76°45’W], 19 November 1963, A.M. Chickering leg. (MCZ 69738).

Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition and refers to the type locality.

Diagnosis. Males of N. gunboat sp. nov. resemble those of N. bryantae sp. nov. and N. maroon sp. nov. (Figs 42, 115) in the bifid vRTA (Fig. 70). They are distinguished from both species by the embolus with two subsequent dorsal keels (Figs 69, 71) (absent in N. bryantae sp. nov. and single in N. maroon sp. nov.). Females are unknown.

Description. Male: Prosoma brown, slightly darker at eye area, with thin dark brown lines along thoracic striae, lateral margins of cephalic region and extending posteriorly from PME. Fovea dark brown. Eye borders black. Chelicerae brown with dark brown longitudinal stripe. Legs and pedipalps brown. Leg tarsi darker. Sternum yellow with brown margins. Endites pale brown, distally cream colored. Labium brown, distally cream colored. Opisthosoma cream colored; dorsally densely covered with gray marks. Total length 8.6. Prosoma: 3.9 long, 3.4 wide. Opisthosoma: 4.7 long, 2.6 wide. Eyes: diameters: 0.24, 0.22, 0.16, 0.20; interdistances: 0.20, 0.10, 0.36, 0.30, 0.18, 0.10. Legs (2143): I: 13.4 (3.7, 1.9, 3.4, 3.5, 0.9); II: 13.8 (4.0, 1.9, 3.5, 3.5, 0.9); III: 10.4 (3.2, 1.5, 2.4, 2.5, 0.8); IV: 12.5 (3.7, 1.5, 2.9, 3.5, 0.9). Palp: VTA triangular, situated medially; dRTA roughly rectangular in retrolateral view; vRTA with one branch two times longer than wide, with rounded tip and the other small and rounded in retrolateral view; eRTA absent; tegular protrusion arising from tegulum at 6 o’clock position; median apophysis arising from tegulum at 3 o’clock position; conductor with the same width throughout its entire length; TBC short, slender, two times longer than wide; embolus arising from tegulum at 9 o’clock position, gently narrowing towards filiform tip; TBE single (Figs 68−71).

Female: unknown.

Distribution. Only known from the type locality in Jamaica (Map 5).
