Type material. Holotype (LACM 2072): About 1.8 miles southeast of Long Point, Santa Catalina Island, California (33º22.9’N, 118º20.7’W), 64 m depth, R/ V Velero IV, 25 June 1954, 55 mm preserved length (Fig. 4 D).

Paratypes (LACM 2014): About 1.8 miles southeast of Long Point, Santa Catalina Island, California (33º22.9’N, 118º20.7’W), 64 m depth, R/ V Velero IV, 25 June 1954, 17 specimens, 37–48 mm preserved length.

Description. Live animal to 60 mm, creamy white to pale brown, short and wide (Fig. 4 A). Cephalic shield longer than posterior shield (Figs. 4 A, D). Shell to 30 mm long, internal, flat, smooth (Figs. 4 B–C). Inner whorl reduced, lacking a coil, bearing weak shelly projection for muscle attachment. Lip projecting above and left of remnant of shell axis forming a conspicuous wing. Periostracum thin.

Radular formula 14–24 x 2.1.0/1.1.2. A row of vestigial rachidian teeth may be present (Fig. 4 E). Inner lateral teeth smooth or with up to seven small denticles, Outer teeth small, hook-shaped, smooth.

Gizzard not muscularized, with three small, equally sized, oval gizzard plates (Fig. 4 F–G).

Range. In North America from Monterey Bay, California to central Baja California (Fig. 3 A). Price et al. (2011) also reported this species from the Galapagos Islands. Depth range 36–274 m.
