Cumella portoricensis sp. nov.

Material examined. Holotype subadult female (MGAB CUM 1740), North of Buoy 4, western Puerto Rico, Caribbean Sea, 18°02'21.8040"N, 67°24'16.0200"W, 70 m, April 30, 2012, collected during the 2012 UPRM-DMS Mesophotic Cruise.

Diagnosis. Carapace with one dorsal denticle and five simple setae on dorsal margin, ocular lobe with five lenses, serrate ventral margin with a prominent tooth on anterior-ventral corner; maxilliped 3, propodus 2.11 times carpus length; uropodal peduncle shorter than last pleonite, uropodal peduncle with one seta on outer margin and two setae on medial one.

Description. Subadult female (holotype MGAB CUM 1740).

Body size, 1.51 mm (Fig. 17 A).

Carapace (Fig. 17 A). Smooth integument, 0.29 times entire body length, 1.64 times as long as high, 1 dorsal denticle and five simple setae on dorsal margin, pseudorostrum 0.4 times frontal lobe, ocular lobe with five lenses, serrate ventral margin with a prominent tooth on anterior-ventral corner.

Pereon, 0.23 times rest of body length, dorsal seta on segments 1, 3–5.

Pleon, 1.08 times cephalothorax length, 1 simple seta on dorso-posterior margin of segments 1–5.

Antenna 1 (Fig. 17 B). Basal article of peduncle 0.6 times as long as rest of articles together, one simple seta on medial margin, median article as long as apical one, main flagellum 0.86 times apical article length, with long aesthetascs, minute accessory flagellum, 0.25 times basal article of main flagellum.

Maxilliped 3 (Fig. 17 C). Basis 0.4 times as long as rest of articles together, one plumose seta on medial margin, two longer pappose setae on outer process; merus 2.33 times as long as ischium, two plumose setae on medial margin, one pappose seta on outer margin; carpus 0.64 times as long as merus, one plumose seta and one denticle on medial margin, one pappose seta on outer margin; propodus 2.11 times as long as carpus, two pappose setae on medial margin, one short plumose seta on outer margin; dactylus 0.37 times propodus length, terminal robust seta as long as dactylus; short underdeveloped exopod.

Pereopod 1 (Fig. 17 D). Basis 0.42 times rest of articles combined length; merus 1.5 times as long as ischium; carpus 2.78 times as long as merus, one simple seta on medial margin; propodus 0.88 times as long as carpus, two short simple setae on medial margin, one simple seta on outer margin; dactylus 0.63 times propodus length, terminal robust seta as long as dactylus; short underdeveloped exopod.

Pereopod 2 (Fig. 17 E). Basis 0.52 times as long as rest of articles together; merus six times as long as ischium; carpus as long as merus, one simple seta on medial margin; dactylus 2.44 times propodus length, three simple short setae on medial margin, two subterminal ones and one terminal robust seta 1.13 times dactylus length; short underdeveloped exopod.

Pereopod 3 (Fig. 17 F). Basis 0.62 times as long as rest of articles together; merus 1.75 times as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin of each; carpus 1.14 times as long as merus, one simple short seta on medial margin; propodus 0.62 times as long as carpus, one short seta on medial margin; dactylus 0.4 times as long as propodus, one short seta on outer margin, fused with terminal robust seta, terminal robust seta 2.25 times dactylus length.

Pereopod 4 (Fig. 17 G). Basis 0.48 times as long as rest of articles together; merus 1.57 times as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin; carpus two times as long as merus; propodus 0.82 times as long as carpus; dactylus 0.22 times propodus length, fused with terminal robust seta, terminal robust seta 3.25 times dactylus length.

Pereopod 5 (Fig. 17 H). Basis 0.38 times as long as rest of articles together; merus 2.2 times as long as ischium length, one simple seta on medial margin; carpus 1.9 times as long as merus; propodus 0.76 times as long as carpus; dactylus 0.19 times as long as propodus, fused with terminal seta, terminal robust seta three times dactylus length.

Uropod (Fig. 17 I). Peduncle 0.79 times last pleonite length, 1.07 times as long as endopod, one simple short seta on outer margin, two on medial one; exopod 0.71 times endopod length, with two articles, one short subterminal seta on medial margin of distal article, terminal robust seta 1.1 times exopod length; endopod with one simple short seta on medial margin, one subterminal and one terminal robust seta 0.5 times endopod length.

Etymology. The species bears the name of the island of the type locality, Puerto Rico.

Remarks. Cumella portoricensis sp. nov. resembles C. croixensis sp. nov. from Puerto Rico having one denticle on the carapace and serrate ventral margin of carapace, pereopod 2 with dactylus with two setae on medial margin, short uropods. It differs from C. croixensis in: 1) ocular lobe with five lenses in C. portoricensis vs. six in C. croixensis; 2) dorsal denticle on frontal lobe vs. on carapace immediately behind frontal lobe (only in female); 3) smooth anterior margin of pseudorostrum vs. serrate; 4) pereopod 1 with setae on medial margin of carpus to dactylus vs. basis to dactylus; 5) pereopod 2 without setae on on medial margin of basis and merus, one on medial margin of carpus and two on medial margin of dactylus vs. simple setae on medial margin of basis and merus and two plumose ones on outer margin of carpus; 6) uropodal peduncle with one seta on outer margin and two on medial one vs. without setae.
