Hypaeus arhuaco sp. nov.

Types. Holotype: male from Hacienda Hierba Buena, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, San Pedro de la Sierra, Ciénaga, Magdalena, Colombia, 2104 m, 10.895138°N, 73.999611°W, 6.V.2016, L. Martínez (ICN-Ar 8205). Paratypes: one male and one female with same data as holotype (ICN-Ar 8206–8207).

Etymology. The species epithet is a noun in apposition that honors the Chibcha-speaking indian tribe, the Arhuaco, who lives today in the area of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and is a direct descendant of the Tayrona indigenous people, together with the Kankuamo, Kogui and Wiwa.

Diagnosis. Males of H. arhuaco sp. nov. can be recognized from those of the remaining species of the genus by its semi-membranous quadrangular retroventral tibial apophysis (RvTA), the straight RTA, and a very long embolus (Figs 7–9). Females can be diagnosed by the epigyne with transverse posterior digitiform glands (dg), oval spermathecae and large atria containing the posteromedial copulatory openings (Figs 10–11).

Description. Male (holotype, ICN -Ar 8205). Total length: 5.20. Carapace dark brown, 2.40 long, 2.00 wide, 1.60 high. Dorsal eye field 1.25 long, with orange-brownish hairs. Anterior eye row 2.00 wide, posterior 1.30 wide (Figs 1, 5). Sternum yellow, 1.00 long, 0.75 wide. Chelicerae dark brown, frontal face slightly concave, with a distal short blunt mastidia (Fig. 5), with three promarginal and four retromarginal teeth. Labium brown. Palp as described above (Figs 7–9). Legs 1342. Coxae I dark brown and II–IV yellow. Trochanters I–IV yellow, and femora I–IV yellow, distally darker. Patellae to metatarsi I–IV dark brown. Leg macrosetae: Femur, I d 1 di, p 2 di. Patella, II–III p 1 di, IV re 1 me. Tibia, I v 2-2 -2, p 1-0-1; II v 2-2 -2, p 1-1-1; III v 1 -0-2, p 1-1-1, r 1-1-1; IV v 1 -0- 1, p 1-1-1, r 1-1-1. Metatarsus, I–II v 2 -0-2; III v 2 -0-2, 1-0-2, r 1-0-2; IV v 1 -0-1, p 1-1-1, r 1-1-1. Abdomen dorsally gray with dark brown markings (Fig. 1); ventrally gray with a wide, longitudinal dark brown wide stripe. Spinnerets brown.

Variation (n=2). Total length: 5.00–5.22. Carapace length: 2.00–2.40.

Female (paratype, ICN -Ar 8206). Total length: 6.40. Carapace yellow, 3.00 long, 2.40 wide, 1.60 high. Ocular quadrangle dark brown, with orange and brown hairs, 1.75 long. Anterior eye row 2.20 wide, posterior 2.00 wide (Fig. 2). Sternum yellow, 1.25 long, 0.75 wide. Chelicerae yellow, with four promarginal and four retromarginal teeth. Labium brown. Sternum yellow. Legs 1342, all yellow. Leg macrosetae: femur, I–IV d 1 di, p 2 di. Patella, IV r 1 di. Tibiae, I–II v 2-2 -2; III–IV v 1 -0-1, d 2-2-2. Metatarsus, I–II v 2 -0-2; III–IV v 2 -0-2, d 2-2-2. Abdomen dorsally gray with dark brown markings (Fig. 2); ventrally gray with a wide, longitudinal dark brown wide stripe. Epigyne as described above (Figs 10–11). Spinnerets brown.

Comments. The type material was collected beating low shrubs, on foliage, in a preserved high mountain wet forest ecosystem, together with the type specimens of H. proszynskii sp. nov.

Distribution. Only known from its type locality, in the Magdalena department, Colombia (Fig. 23).
