Type locality. Poland (Silesia) and Germany (vicinity of Helmstedt).

Type specimens. Type status and location unknown.

Type hosts. Apodemus agrarius (Pallas, 1771), the striped field mouse, and A. flavicollis (Melchior, 1834), the yellow-necked mouse.

Principal hosts. Mice of the genus Apodemus (Willmann, 1952; Haitlinger, 1988; Mašán & Fend’a, 2010). Occasionally may parasitise different species of voles (Nikulina, 2004).

Distribution. Europe. A record of Hg. hirsutosimilis from the steppe zone of Western Siberia (Davydova & Nikol’sky, 1986) remains the only published finding of this species in Asiatic Russia. Unfortunately, the authors gave no information about the exact locality of Hg. hirsutosimilis in Siberia or its mammal host there.
