Description
A Subboreal European bison (Bison bonasus) from the pit of La Cha (Injoux-Génissiat, Ain, France). - An incomplete skeleton of an European bison (Bison bonasus) was discovered by cave explorers in the Jurassian pit of La Cha, 1274 m asl. The animal, dated from the Subboreal (Late Neolithic), is a small adult male. Its isotopic signature indicates a forest environment, confirmed by regional palynological analyzes. Other contemporary bisons have been discovered in the Jura at comparable altitudes.
