Groveriella Mamaev

Description

Genus Groveriella Mamaev

The genus Groveriella, recently reviewed by Jaschhof and Jaschhof (2009), includes two European species, G. carpathica Mamaev from the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine and G. baltica Spungis & Jaschhof from the Baltic region. Groveriella differs from Strobliella, the genus treated next, in two characters: the costa has a break posterior to the apex of the wing (costal break absent in Strobliella), and legs may have scales besides ordinary setae (scales absent in Strobliella). Other characters previously thought to distinguish Groveriella from Strobliella, such as crenulate whorls present on the flagellomeres of males and teeth present on the claws, in fact apply to both genera (see below under Strobliella). The previously unknown female for any Groveriella, that of G. baltica, is described below.
