Type species: Leptoderes ornatipennis Serville, 1838

Redescription. Medium-sized for mimetic leaf phaneropterine tettigoniids. Head elongate, ovoid, surface smooth. Vertex of occiput deflexed, dorsally sulcate, narrower than basal segment of antennae. Eyes slightly rounded, bulging. Antennae longer than body, slender, long. Pronotum significantly elongate, triangular. Anterior tibiae dorsally nearly flat, with tympanum conchate on both sides; broadened and gradually constricted below tympana. Legs slender, long. Anterior coxae armed with a sharp spine. Anterior and median femora with small spines on ventro-anterior margin; posterior femur with a few spines only near apex on ventro-posterior margin. Anterior tibiae with tympanum conchate on both sides, widened at and abruptly constricted below tympana. Median tibiae dorsally with distinct groove, with or without dorsal spines; posterior tibiae with dorsal spines on both sides. Tegmen very broad, elongate, but shorter than hind wing. Apex of tegmen rounded. Hind wing translucent with exception of apical area; anal area distinctly broadened, with colored bars. Male abdomen short. Male epiproct simple. Male subgenital plate elongate, with notch at apex; styli clavate. Male cerci long, clavate and incurved. Male genitalia membranous, without sclerotized structure.

Female similar to male. Cerci conical. Ovipositor strong, falcate, with distinct teeth on dorsal margin.

Biology. Males produce simple and short calling songs, which include a few long-interval sole tones. They can be attracted to light. Nymphs seem to mimic a wingless tiger beetle Tricondyla Latreille, 1822 (Coleoptera: Carabidae).
