The title oxidation is first order each in oxidant, selenium(IV) and alakli and inverse first order in tellurium(VI). The rate of the reaction increases with increase in ionic strength. Ea and ΔS≠ values at 40° are found to be 23.3 ± 1.5 KJ mol-1 and 12.6 ± 4.8 JK-1 mol-1 respectively. A suitable mechanism is proposed.
