Ariadne comata O. P.- Cambridge, 1898: 235, pl. 30, fig. 8 (♀ holotype from Orizaba [18°51'N; 97°06'W], Vera Cruz, Mexico, Godman & Salvin leg., deposited in NHM 1901.3.3.77, examined).—F. O. P.- Cambridge (1899: 32).— Petrunkevitch (1911: 131).— Bonnet (1955: 732).— Beatty (1970: 461, Syn. with A. pilifera).

Note. The revalidation of this species is based on the examination of the holotype, and also non-type specimens near the type locality.

Additional material examined. MEXICO: Puebla State: Puebla, Villa Juaréz [19°03'06.4"N; 98°13'37.6"W], 1♀, 23.X.1951 (CNAN-Ar 007980); Veracruz State: San Andrés Tuxtla, Estación de Biología Los Tuxtlas (18º35'11.2" N; 95º04'30.5"W), 9♀, 28‒31.VII.2014, A.M. Giroti et al. leg. (IBSP 209944-209952); Cueva de Ruiz Cortinez; entorno; 1067m (18º32'39.2" N; 95º08'36.1"W), 1♀, 28.VII.2014, A.M. Giroti et al. leg. (IBSP 209953); Chiapas State: 3km SE Custepec; 1740m; secondary mesophil forest [15°42'51,9''N; 92°56'16,5''W], 1♂, 17.V.2008 (MCZ 80543).

Diagnosis. Ariadna comata is similar to A. bicolor, A. pilifera and A. weaveri due to the morphology of the male palp (Figs 13A‒B, 28A‒B, 42A‒B) and macrosetae pattern of the tibia II of females, but males differ by the presence of metatarsi I with two conspicuous lateral conical apophyses, one on each side, bearing one macrosetae in the base of the retrolateral, and one blunt macroseta (i.e. globous shaft with rounded tip) on the prolateral one (Fig. 29C‒E); females differ from A. bicolor by the presence of a dorsal lobe shorter than the ventral lobe, from A. weaveri by the expanded ventral lobe and smaller glandular ducts plate, and from A. pilifera by the ventral lobe longer and more sinuous (Fig. 30C‒D).
