Turbicellepora Ryland 1963

Description

Genus Turbicellepora Ryland, 1963

Type species. Turbicellepora coronopus (Wood).

Remarks. The first species of Turbicellepora to be recorded in the coastal waters of the Faroe Islands was Turbicellepora avicularis (Hincks, 1860) (Nordgaard 1907; Kramp 1934). This was followed by Turbicellepora nodulosa (LorenZ, 1886), from the shallow sublittoral of the Faroe shelf (BIOFAR program, 1986‒1989, BIOFAR database, unpublished data) (Denisenko et al. 2016). A third species, Turbicellepora boreale Hayward & Hansen, 1999, from the shallow sublittoral‒upper bathyal, was described following re-examination of some BIOFAR samples and the collection of the Natural History Museum, London (Hayward & Hansen 1999). The new species described here was also found in the BIOFAR samples.
