Distribution. Western Atlantic—Bermuda, USA (North Carolina to Florida), Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, Mexico (Yucatán) to Venezuela, Brazil (São Pedro and São Paulo Archipelago, Atol das Rocas, Trindade and Martim Vaz islands, Ceará to Santa Catarina). Central Atlantic—Ascension and Saint Helena Islands (Christoffersen 1979; 1998; Holthuis et al. 1980; Manning & Chace 1990; Anker et al. 2012; 2016).

Previous records. Ubatuba (Christoffersen 1979; Duarte & Nalesso 1996; Morgado & Tanaka 2001); São Sebastião (Christoffersen 1979; Nalesso et al. 1995; Duarte & Nalesso 1996; Amaral et al. 2010; Anker et al. 2012); São Sebastião Island (Municipality of Ilhabela), São Sebastião Channel, Santo Amaro Island (Municipality of Guarujá), Santos and Itanhaém (Christoffersen 1979).

Remarks. Synalpheus fritzmuelleri has a quite variable morphology and may require a complete study integrating morphology and DNA analyses to verify if it is a species complex (Anker et al. 2012). GenBank accession number: CCDB 3416—COI (KU313015).
