Description
Schizotricha glacialis (Hickson & Gravely, 1907)
(Fig. 15 b–c)
Material examined. ANT XV/3: 48-353, one colony, c. 90 mm high, with gonothecae.
Ecology and distribution. Rare species, only reported twice: from its type locality in the Ross Sea at a depth of 180 m (Hickson & Gravely 1907, as Plumularia glacialis), and from the eastern part of the Weddell Sea, at a depth of 620–640 m (Peña Cantero et al. 1996); present material collected at 129– 132 m. Probably a circum- Antarctic species. Present finding constitutes the third record of the species and the first evidence from the South Shetland Islands.
