Scientific botanical drawing in China in ХХ–XXI centuries

The purpose of this article is to cover the emergence and development of scientific botanical drawing in China as a separate direction in art even with its short history. The emergence of this art form is closely related to the burgeon of modern Chinese botany in the last century. The launch of creating a monumental work on the book “Flora of China” gave this form of art a powerful impetus for development. The book is the largest encyclopedia of the world of plants in China. The Jiannan Paint Academy was created specifically to carry out this project, which became the first higher education establishment in the country to teach the botanical drawing on a professional level. Currently, scientific botanical drawing is diminishing as a type of scientific activity, thus it is vital to search for new ways of preservation and development of this type of art.
