Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of 2-imino-4-(benzimidazol-2' -yl)- 6-aryl-6H -2,3-dihydro-1,3-thia/oxazines

2-Acetylbenzimidazole (1) on condensation with various aldehydes yields the chalcones (2a-1) which on cyclization with thiourea/urea in ale. KOH furnish the corresponding 2-imlno-4-(benzimidazol-2'-yl)-6-aryl-6H-2,3-dibydro-1,3-thiazinesll,3-oxozines (3a-1, 4a-1). The compounds have been evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities.
