PERSONALITY FACTORS IN LANGUAGE LEARNING: INHIBITION, ANXIETY AND RISK –TAKING

From a theoretical standpoint, this paper attempts to examine individual personality factors as important variables in second language acquisition. To achieve the paper's objectives, the definition of concepts and the importance of each personality factor such as motivation, attitude, acculturation, self-esteem, sociability, risk-taking, and perseverance that lead to greater proficiency in second language acquisition are discussed in a brief but broad overview. In general, the purpose of this paper is to draw attention to the role of individual personality factors in the process of learning a second language from an Islamic perspective. It is hoped that with such knowledge, language teachers will be able to promote and allow the development of learners' personalities while also being able to take appropriate action in cases where special guidance and assistance are required.
