A new synthesis of 5-substituted-3-phenyl-2H-pyrano[2,3-b ]quinolin-2-ones

Synthesis of title compounds and derivatives is reported by the Perkin reaction of 3-formyl-4-phenyl/methyl-2-quinolones (3) with sodium salt of phenylacetic acid. The 3-formyl-2-quinolones 3 were obtained from 2-chloro-3-forml-4-phenyl/ methylquinolines (2) which ilium were prepared from 2-chloro-4-phenyl/methyl-3-vinylquinolines (1).
