Video Games as Archaeological Sites: Treating digital entertainment as built environments

A video game is a built environment, something made by people for other people to use – and in some cases ‘inhabit’ if the game is really, really good. A video game is also an archaeological site. This chapter seeks to explore this idea in detail, treating it as less of an analogy and more as a way of applying archaeological methods and interpretation to digital interactive media/entertainment.
