Diaphus anderseni Tåning, 1932.

Lowlights Headlightfish. To 3.5 cm (1.4 in) SL (Wisner 1976). Circumglobal (Hulley and Paxton in Carpenter and De Angelis 2016); western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Nakabo in Nakabo 2002); southern California (32°21’N, 120°06’W) (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) to central Baja California (Berry and Perkins 1966) and Chile (Sielfeld and Kawaguchi 2004). Mesopelagic (Hulley and Paxton in Carpenter and De Angelis 2016); depth: surface (nightlight; Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) to perhaps 3,450 m (11,316 ft) (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California).
