Description

Mitsukurina owstoni Jordan, 1898.

Goblin Shark. Maximum measured size is 4.10 m (13.45 ft) TL (Kukuev 1982); however, a photo of a specimen from the Gulf of Mexico was estimated at 5.40–6.17 m (17.12–20.24 ft) (Parsons et al. 2002). Circumglobal; western Pacific Ocean north to Honshu, Japan (Aonuma and Yoshino in Nakabo 2002); San Clemente Island, southern California (Ugoretz and Seigel 1999). Depth: surface to 1,300 m (4,264 ft) (Ebert et al. 2013).
