Ethylenediamine reacts with 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(N,N-dimcthylamino)propenone 3 to form N,N'-bis[1-(2- hydroxyphenyl)cthylidene]ethylenediamine 2 instead of the expected bisenaminoketone 1.
