Neutral and cationic mononuclear palladium(n) substituted tertiary phosphine complexes containing acetylacetone, carbonmonoxide and chloride as co-ligands have been synthesized in quantitative yield and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, conductance measurements, IR, NMR (1H, 13C and 31P), mass and electronic spectral data. The catalytic hydrogenation activity of some of these complexes has been studied and found that they are efficient catalysts for reduction of organic nitro, olefinic, acetylenic and aldehyde groups under mild reaction conditions.
