Lectotype ♂ in ZMHU (see Göllner-Scheiding 1973: 41; Palma & Pilgrim 2002: 36).

Type host: Pachyptila desolata (Gmelin, 1789).

Chilean host: Pachyptila belcheri (Mathews, 1912).

Genus Ornithobius Denny, 1842

Ornithobius Denny, 1842. Mon. Anopl. Brit. 1842, 183. Type species: Ornithobius cygni (Linnaeus, 1758) (by subsequent designation). As a subgenus of Philopterus.
