Distribution.This species has a cosmopolitan distribution in tropical and temperate waters; ranging to 60°N in the Atlantic, to 50°N in the Pacific, and south to the Antarctic convergence (Vinogradov et al. 1996). In the eastern Pacific it ranges from 34°N to 23°S, including off the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula and in the Gulf of California (Shih & Hendrycks 2003, García-Madrigal 2007).

Remarks. Shih & Hendrycks (2003) collected this species more frequently in deep water (i.e., 850‒1350 m).
