Atractides (Atractides) sabahensis Smit & Pešić, 2014, n. sp.

Description

Atractides (Atractides) sabahensis n. sp.

(Figs. 14A–D, 15A–D)

Type series. Holotype male, dissected and slide mounted, Mahua stream at crossing with main road, Crocker Range, Borneo, Malaysia, 5º 45.225 N 116º 26.085 E, alt. 752 m asl., 22-ix-2012 (RMNH). Paratypes: 1/5(1 juvenile)/0, same data as holotype, one female dissected and slide mounted; 1/6/0, Mahua stream, downstream of national park entrance, Crocker Range, Borneo, Malaysia, 5º 46.491 N 116º 25.770 E, alt. 865 m asl., 22-ix-2012 (RMNH).

Diagnosis. Palp without sexual dimorphism, ventral margin P2 convex, P3 weakly concave proximally, distally convexly protruding, P4 elevated near insertion of proximoventral seta; S-1 and -2 close to each other, S-2 thicker than S-1, I-L-6 curved and relatively long (length ratio I-leg-5/6 1.35-1.4).

Description. Integument dorsally striated, muscle insertions unsclerotized. Genital field: Ac in an obtuse triangle. Excretory pore smooth; vgl-1 separate from vgl-2. Palp (Figs. 14C–D): Ventral margin of P2 convex, P3 proximally weakly concave, distally convex, P4 elevated near insertion of proximoventral seta, sword seta between ventral setae. Legs: I-leg-5 distally protruding near insertion S-1, S-1 and -2 close to each other, S-2 thicker than S- 1, I-leg-6 curved, inflated proximally, from the centre to the claw furrow with parallel dorsal and ventral margins (Figs. 14B, 15A). Male: Genital field anterior margin slightly convex, posterior margin indented. Female: Genital field: genital plates slender, Ac-3 smaller than Ac-1 and -3 (Fig. 15D).

Measurements. Male (holotype)—Idiosoma length/width 416/316; coxal field: length 256; Cx-III width 272; Cx-I+II medial length 103, lateral length 172; genital field length/width 77/91, length Ac 1–3: 23–27, 30–34, 29; ejaculatory complex length 76.

Palp: Total length 225, dorsal length/height, dorsal length/height ratio: P1, 22/20, 1.1; P2, 49/37, 1.3; P3, 54/ 34, 1.59; P4, 71/20, 3.55; P5, 29/11.5/2.55; length P2/P4 ratio 0.68; capitulum ventral length 105; chelicera total length 139.

Legs: I-leg-5 dorsal length 129, ventral length 85, dorsal length/ventral length ratio 1.51, maximum height 43, dorsal length/maximum height 3.0, S-1 length 72, length/width ratio 10.0, S-2 length 60, length/width ratio 5.1, distance S- 1-2 11, length ratio S-1/2 1.2; I-leg-6 length 96, central height 17, length/central height ratio 5.5; length I-leg-5/6 ratio 1.35.

Female (paratype)—Idiosoma length/width 644/525; coxal field: length 300; Cx-III width 394; Cx-I+II medial length 117, lateral length 202; genital field length/width 140/146, genital plates length 100, length Ac 1–3: 35–36, 35–39, 29–32.

Palp: Total length 277, dorsal length/height, dorsal length/height ratio: P1, 25/25, 1.0; P2, 57/40, 1.43; P3, 72/ 33, 2.18; P4, 89/21.5, 4.1; P5, 34/14, 2.4; length P-2/P-4 ratio 0.64; capitulum ventral length 109; chelicera total length 169.

Legs: I-leg-5 dorsal length 175, ventral length 116, dorsal length/ventral length ratio 1.51, maximum height 52, dorsal length/maximum height 3.4, S-1 length 97, length/width ratio 9.0, S-2 length 78, length/width ratio 5.2, distance S- 1-2 18, length ratio S-1/2 1.24; I-L-6 length 128, central height 18.5, length/central height ratio 6.9; length I-L-5/6 ratio 1.37.

Etymology. Named after the province (Sabah) where the new species was found.

Remarks. The new species closely resembles Atractides propatulus (K. Viets, 1935) (South Sumatra, K. Viets 1935) in the small S-1/2 interspace, I-leg-6 curved and stocky, and a palp without sexual dimorphism. The latter species can be distinguished by more slender palp segments, with almost straight ventral margins of P-2–4 (compare Figs. 11E and 14C–D), and by a shorter and more stout I-L-6 (Fig. 11F).

Malformation. I-leg of one female shows particular deformation (lacking sword setae S-1 and -2— Fig. 15B).

Distribution. Borneo.
