tci20130901-04 - Bthan kabe

Description

This is a recording of Nakre Abia, Yufai Karémbu and Mbai Karo. The three are sitting at night by the fire and talk about sorcery. Two or three days before a story had made its about a sorcerer in the neighboring village who attacked a boy in his garden at night. The story later turned out to be a fabrication. The recording took place in Rouku village, Western Province, Papua New Guinea.

The material was recorded by Christian Döhler as part of a language documentation project for his PhD. The project was located at the School of Culture, History and Language at the Australian National University, Canberra. For the most part it was funded by the DOBES project of the Volkswagen Foundation.
