Family Carcharhinidae

Prionace glauca (Linnaeus, 1758) —Blue shark

5 females ranging between 75–113 cm TL were caught at an unknown depth during the hauling of bottom longline. In addition, 13 specimens were reported during the exploratory surveys carried out on the 1980s. Habitat and Distribution: oceanic epipelagic and fringe-littoral shark, occurring from the surface to at least 350 m depth; deeper in warm temperate and subtropical waters. Circumglobal in temperate and tropical waters. Vulnerability: NT (IUCN), HHV (FishBase).

Isurus oxyrinchus Rafinesque, 1810 —Shortfin mako

Reported only during the exploratory surveys on the 1980s with length range from 125 to 245 cm TL. Habitat and Distribution: epipelagic, oceanic shark generally occuring in tropical and warm temperate seas off the continental shelf at depths of 120 to 240 m or even deeper. North Atlantic Ocean and scattered records in the Pacific and western Indian oceans. Vulnerability: VU (IUCN), VHV (FishBase).
