Strigamia maculaticeps Wood 1862

Description

Strigamia maculaticeps Wood, 1862 *

References for morphology: Wood 1862, 1865.

Taxonomic notes. Described originally as a species of Strigamia, it was variously assigned to Linotaenia ¸ Scolioplanes or Tomotaenia. No other specimens have been recorded since the original description and the species was rarely mentioned but its validity was not questioned (Mercurio 2010). However, it is maintained here as valid only tentatively because the brief original description does not allow its evaluation against other species known from the same region and with similar number of trunk segments, including S. auxa and S. epileptica.

Distribution: known from a single locality in the Upper Colorado Region, in the Rocky Mountains.
