Description

* Lithobus (Lithobius) erythrocephalus C.L. Koch, 1847

Material examined: 12 3, 8 ƤƤ.

Sites: 31, 34, 50, 53, 58, 92, 96, 106 (Fig. 10).

General distribution. Europe: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France (Alps), Germany, Greece (mainland, Crete, Cyclades, Dodecanese), Hungary, Italy (mainland, Sicily), Latvia, Lithuania, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation (western part), Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine; West Asia: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Georgia, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey. Introduced in Iceland (ssp. erythrocephalus) and in Saudi Arabia (ssp. cronebergi Sseliwanoff, 1881) (Folkmanová 1928; Eason 1964; 1970; Zalesskaja 1978; Zapparoli 1991, 1999; Kos 1992; Foddai et al. 1995; Stoev 1997; Simaiakis et al. 2005). Records from Madeira Is., Azores Isl., North Africa, Spain and Britain are not reliable and due to misidentification (cf. Eason & Serra 1981).

Chorotype. European.

Habitats. Habitats with Pinus, Quercus and Olea, ravines with Platanus and Pinus, moor, near ponds with Pinus forests, patches with Eucalyptus and Acacia.

Altitudinal range: 140–1640 m.
