Xiphister atropurpureus

Description

Xiphister atropurpureus (Kittlitz, 1858).

Black Prickleback. To 32.3 cm (12.7 in) TL (Mecklenburg et al. 2002). Kodiak Island, Gulf of Alaska (Mecklenburg et al. 2002) to near Isla San Martín (30°26’N, 116°07’W), northern Baja California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California). Benthic; depth: intertidal to 27 m (90 ft) (min.: Miller and Lea 1972; max.: Personal communication: University of Washington, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture Fish Collection, Seattle, Washington).
