Stereolepis gigas Ayres, 1859.

Giant Sea Bass. To 2.7 m (8.9 ft) TL (Parker House, pers. comm. to M.L.). Northern Japan and Sea of Japan (Mochizuki in Masuda et al. 1984) (but likely in error); Humboldt Bay, northern California (Miller and Lea 1972) to Oaxaca, southern Mexico (Shane et al. in Moser 1996), including Gulf of California (Miller and Lea 1972). Depth: 5–55 m (18–180 ft) (min.: Miller and Lea 1972; max.: Conner Jainese, pers. comm. to M.L.).
