Scorpaenodes xyris
Description
Scorpaenodes xyris (Jordan & Gilbert, 1882).
Rainbow Scorpionfish. To 15 cm (6 in) TL (Eschmeyer and Herald 1983).Anacapa and Santa Barbara Islands, southern California (Richards and Engle 2001) to Islas Chincha, Peru (Chirichigno 1974), including Gulf of California (Poss in Fischer et al. 1995), and Islas Galápagos (Eschmeyer and Herald 1983). Depth: intertidal to 50 m (164 ft) (min.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California; max.: Grove and Lavenberg 1997).
